School Council

School Councils play a fundamental role across the York Region District School Board in ensuring student success.

Bayview Fairways Public School's School Council is actively involved in supporting student achievement through the School Plan for Continuous Improvement. School Council meets on a regular basis (see schedule below). Parents and community members are always welcome to attend the meetings or to send comments and suggestions at anytime.

Even if you are not interested in participating in School Council directly, there are many opportunities to help out in the school and enhance the learning environment for all students.  Go to Your Help Needed for opportunities to volunteer in the school.

For more information regarding our Bayview Fairways Public School's school council, contact us at the school telephone number: 905.889.1858.  You can also check out the School Council bulletin board in the lobby for information.   School Council provides an update to parents through the school newsletters each month.

Bayview Fairways School Council Fundraising

“Our major fundraiser, this year is being discussed.  We are still selling magazines to help raise funds for the school.  Please go to www.QSP.ca to view the available magazines.  Our code for purchases is 9951.  All monies raised from fundraising are used to enhance the learning of all students.   In addition to the major fundraiser, School Council co-ordinates the pizza and lunches which add to the funds we have available.

Over the years, School Council has spent fundraised money on:

·         Playground equipment, both large and small.  The play area in the primary playground was funded solely by school fundraised dollars.  School Council partnered with the school to purchase mats for the gymnasium.  School Council continues to replenish play equipment that is used at recess to keep students active and having fun.

·         Musical instruments that have helped make our school a gold medal winner at competitions in the region.  While School Council initiated the plan, it was the hard work and commitment of volunteers beyond the School Council ranks who dedicated their time to procuring ad sales that have allowed the school to replenish and refurbish school instruments.  One Bass Clarinet, one Euphonium, one tuba, one tenor sax, two alto sax, three trombones, seven flutes, seven clarinets and six trumpets have been purchased.

·         Computers for the computer room and portable laptop computers for classroom use.  School Council has taken advantage of grants to purchase over 20 computers, including 3 Macintosh computers to support the media literacy strand.  As the importance of technology continues to grow, School Council will continue to support the purchase of technology for classroom use.

·         The outdoor classroom has provided a unique setting for classroom learning.  In addition to the classroom, School Council has purchased trees that will ultimately provide shade for warm weather learning.

·         Books and materials for classroom use.  School Council does not purchase classroom texts but does purchase books that supplement the books purchased by the school.  School Council has purchased books for library programmes (Battle of the Books, Silver Birch), borrow- a- book, levelled readers,  and other soft covered books for classroom libraries.

·         Arts programmes for students in all grades.

·         The tiles in the lobby, providing a colourful and welcoming lobby for students and families.

·         The laminator, used extensively by Bayview Fairways Staff, supports school operations.

School Council Sponsored Events:

Please keep your eye here for upcoming Sponsored Events by School Council.

School Council sponsors after school events to provide parents, students and teachers to gather and socialize, with the ultimate goal being stronger partnerships between parents and the school.   These events have included Bingo Nights and the Year End Event.  In September 2008, School Council sponsored a Family International Games Night and in March 2009 the School Council sponsored a Family Science Night.

For a number of years, School Council has arranged skating at Clatworthy Arena.  This event supports our healthy living focus and also provides students who have never had the opportunity to skate to try this fun activity.
